Student Masterclasses & Composition Competition

November 19–21, 2026

The Music Association of California Community Colleges (MACCC) is proud to offer opportunities for students to learn, perform, create, and collaborate during our 2026 Annual Conference in San Diego!

Explore the opportunities below to learn more about participation requirements and access registration. Faculty are encouraged to share this page with interested students.

Important Information for Masterclass Participants

Faculty sponsorship is required for students registering as masterclass participants.

Observers are welcome! Students attending masterclasses as observers do not need to register for the masterclass.

Piano Masterclass

An exciting opportunity for student pianists to share their musicianship and receive educational feedback in a collaborative conference setting. Students are invited to apply as participants, while fellow students and faculty are welcome to attend as observers.

Participants should prepare:

  • Faculty sponsor information
  • YouTube link to a performance recording
  • Masterclass repertoire list
  • Any additional materials requested during registration

Jazz Masterclass

Student jazz musicians are invited to participate in an engaging educational experience focused on jazz performance, musical expression, and collaborative learning. This masterclass offers students an opportunity to share their artistry and receive constructive feedback.

Participants should prepare:

  • Masterclass repertoire list
  • Any additional materials requested during registration

Composition Masterclass

Calling all student composers! The Composition Masterclass provides an opportunity to share original musical works, explore the creative process, and receive valuable feedback in a supportive educational environment.

Participants should prepare:

  • Faculty sponsor information
  • PDF of the composition score
  • MP3 recording or audio link of the composition
  • Any additional materials requested during registration

Student Composition Competition

MACCC celebrates the creativity and artistic achievements of California community college student composers through its annual Composition Competition.

Students interested in submitting an original composition are encouraged to review the competition information, including eligibility, submission requirements, and important deadlines.

Masterclass Registration & Payment

Students registering for a masterclass may complete payment online using a credit card.

If payment will be handled by a faculty sponsor or college, please select "Invoice" during registration.

      • This is only for faculty bringing student ensemble participants.
      • Register under your faculty account - you will not be charged. The system will let you register under the same account for two different events.
      • Please enter the total number of participants for fees payment.
        • Rosters (names, ensemble, instrumentation, etc.) will be collected at a later date, closer to the conference.
        • Billing can be online now, or invoiced for later payment through college funds.

      MACCC26 Composition Competition Registration

      Two competition winners will be selected to have their music performed at the culminating concert on Saturday, November 21. Additionally, we will award $200 to the first-place winner and $100 to the second-place winner.

      We hope you will encourage your best students to submit one creative work for adjudication and join us at the conference this year. 

      Compositions will be evaluated by a panel of adjudicators, using the following rubric: Composition Rubric.pdf
