Help Shape the Future of Music Courses – Fill Out the CCN Survey

The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) is currently collecting input from music faculty as part of Phase III of the Common Course Numbering (CCN) implementation.

California Community College Music faculty are invited to complete a brief pre-convening survey by April 15. This is a critical moment to ensure that our field is accurately represented in the statewide course alignment efforts.

The survey results will directly inform the June CCN Faculty Workgroup convenings and play a key role in the development of Music CCN Course Templates.

Deadline to participate: Tuesday, April 15

Aerosol Study Updates!

We're excited to share that the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), in partnership with the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), has posted some updated information on its aerosol study in a recent post: Unprecedented International Coalition led by Performing Arts Organizations to Commission COVID-19 Study.

The 40+ page research paper has been published to the University of Colorado Boulder Scholar library: Measurements and Simulations of Aerosol Released while Singing and Playing Wind Instruments. The Wall Street Journal also recently published an article entitled Band Practice in the Age of Covid-19 that highlights the results of the study with helpful animations and visuals.

Finally, the U.S. Department of Education's Safer Schools and Campuses Best Practices Clearinghouse has issued a call for examples of risk management practices in music classrooms. The Clearinghouse uses this information to share with music educators and music advocates for the safe reopening of schools.
